The SMD has the following objectives:-
1to identify and protect the interest of medical doctors in Malawi;
2to provide and always maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, impartiality, honesty and work ethic in the health service;
3to provide and always maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, impartiality, honesty and work ethic in the health service;
4to ensure adherence to the principles of the “Declaration of Geneva” approved by the World Medical Association;
5to prevent breach of the fundamental rights of any medical doctor
6to foster the improvement of conditions of service affecting their performance;
7of the welfare of all medical doctors; present views, improve, sustain and maintain the rights, obligations, material rewards, and status of all medical doctors commensurate with the significance and overall social value of their work;
8to ensure the maintenance of political neutrality in the health service;
9 to provide informed and impartial advice to Government and other stakeholders on the delivery of health services and on other matters relating to the health service;
10to promote networking and the sharing of experience at national and international levels;
11to hold conferences, meetings, seminars, workshops or lectures; and publish newsletters, periodicals or books for the purpose of acquiring and disseminating knowledge for the benefit of medical doctors, the public and other interested parties;
